Priroda Bosne i Hercegovine oduvijek je ljudima na ovim prostorima pružala mnogostruke koristi i dobre uslove za život. Međutim, današnji globalni i lokalni pritisci ostavljaju sve veći trag na njeno stanje, a time i na kvalitet života u Bosni i Hercegovini. Svrha publikacije Sažetak za donosioce odluka je da odgovori na ključna pitanja i prenese ključne poruke nastale kroz pripremu Procjene stanja prirode i upravljanja prirodnim resursima u Bosni i Hercegovini, koja predstavlja analizu savremenih domaćih naučnih i stručnih znanja o stanju biološke raznolikosti, različitim tipovima koristi od prirode, trendovima direktnih i indirektnih pritisaka te scenarijima i opcijama za održivo upravljanje prirodom u Bosni i Hercegovini. Procjena stanja prirode i upravljanja prirodnim resursima je javno dostupna publikacija u formi naučne monografije u šest poglavlja koja se bave navedenim aspektima prirode u Bosni i Hercegovini.

Univerzitetski udžbenik pod nazivom Osnove preventivne stomatologije sa kliničkom primjenom u praksi konceptualno se sastoji od četiri dijela. Prvi dio se odnosi na motivaciju pacijenata za očuvanje i unapređenje svog oralnog zdravlja, kao i na biološke mehanizme zaštite koji su prisutni u usnoj šupljini i koji su prva prirodna barijera za sprečavanje nastanka mnogih oralnih oboljenja. Drugi i najobimniji dio odnosi se na prevenciju oboljenja tvrdih zubnih tkiva, a koji počinje sa razmatranjima o oralnom biofilmu, zubnom plaku i karijesnom procesu, te završava sa genetskim imunološkim aspektom zubnog karijesa i preventivnim mjerama kod različitih populacionih skupina. Prevencija oboljenja parodontalnih tkiva se razmatra u trećem dijelu, dok se četvrti dio bavi prevencijom oboljenja ostalih tkiva i struktura orofacijalne regije (stečene ortodontske nepravilnosti, orofacijalne povrede, oboljenja mekih tkiva). Tekst je popraćen i obogaćen tabelarnim prikazima i odgovarajućom recentnom fotodokumentacijom. Isto tako, u zavisnosti od vrste prikazanih oboljenja, udžbeničko štivo konceptualno razmatra sva tri nivoa prevencije u slučaju da je to prihvatljivo i klinički opravdano, tako da se često u knjizi navode i različite terapijske mjere u tom smislu.

The University of Sarajevo, as a systematic and complex institution of social significance, whose mission is to educate quality and creative leaders of the future in an integrated teaching, scientific and research process, monitors, coordinates and strategically plans the teaching process at 22 faculties and three academies. This sector contains four essential areas of activity: improvement of the teaching process, coordination and monitoring of the implementation of the teaching process, student issues and lifelong learning. The focus of these activities is on planning and implementing an efficient system of monitoring key indicators of the teaching process quality, creation, research and dissemination of new ways of knowledge transfer in new interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary teaching methods through the Office for Professional Development of Teaching Staff. Furthermore, in cooperation with student organisations, activities are implemented regarding the improvement of student experiences, by establishing efficient mechanisms of enrolment policy management and the process of promoting the graduated students, and by lifelong learning programmes for teaching, subsidiary and administrative staff of the University.

Marking the 60th anniversary of the continued activity of the University of Sarajevo is an opportunity to present the brilliant development of the greatest and oldest university institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The University of Sarajevo continues the centuries-long legacy and tradition of higher education in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in Sarajevo. The origins of higher education date from the 14th century, which is confirmed by the documents of the Inquisition Court in Turin, Italy. The founding of the University in Sarajevo, in 1949, represents a testimony of the social and cultural development of Bosnia and Herzegovina in general, after its decades’ long inferior status within the Kingdom of Yugoslavia due to the devastation brought about by the world wars. The composite nature of the University gave it an opportunity to emulate the examples of world famous universities and thus rehabilitate the centuries-old and rich educational and cultural tradition of Bosnia and Herzegovina, developed and cultivated within great world religions and civilisations.

1479 Days: The Siege of University of Sarajevo

During the siege of Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which lasted more than three and a half years (1992-1995), the whole corpus of international law provisions was violated, although they were actually adopted to protect targeting against citizens and civilian objects. Thousands of civilians, of both sex and of different ages, including children and elderly, were killed or wounded during the missile targeting, sniper shootings and daily fire conducting by different arms of aggressor. Citizens of Sarajevo were subjected to daily terror, physical injuries and mental sufferings; they were compelled to live in fear of death. Living in the city was marked by great and in some long periods even absolute famine, water, electricity and gas supply deficiency, there was no city traffic, and the town became ghetto. People were dying in the same manner they died in Terezin, Warsaw, and Dachau. Citizens of Sarajevo were killed by aggressor in a planned and premeditate manner, on the streets, in lines of people waiting for water, bread and fuel, in hospitals, at funerals, in ambulance cars, in tramps, in buses, in improvised gardens, while carrying their water or their fuel by their bicycles... The children were killed in houses, and while playing in front of their houses, in school classrooms and in school playgrounds, and it is their blood that soaked Europe’s conscience, conscience of a community that did not show its human responsibility in this case.
